Faith Hope and Charity (December 2016)fhc-web

This brilliant and punchy piece of German expressionism is humourous, absurd, dark and quirky. Follow Elizabeth’s journey through a surreal, yet all too recognisable world as she she struggles against the system in order to prove her independence. All she needs is a sales permit, and she’ll do anything to get it. But the system sometimes is just too strong.

Odon Von Horvath wanted to tell the story of the overlooked injustices of the criminal system in 30s Germany: the circle of crimes that occurred purely for survival, and who’s punishments helped to keep society conveniently segregated.

Performed by members of our non-professional training company, this piece has been rehearsed in approximately 50 hrs. This presentation is the Historical/Political project for the company and is the culmination of our learning and rehearsal process for the piece.

Cast: Dario Bernardo, Andrew Bowman, Alex Burr, Stephen A. Dalton, Marjolaine Draurt, Juris Magone, Louise Meylan, Paul Mendez, Joanna Prusiewicz, Catalina Sapiains Lagos, Johannes Schulze.

germinaton-webGermination – A Devised Piece (December 2016)

This piece was inspired by the details surrounding the 1999 London nailbombings.

Our story concentrates on the decisions, moments, connections, consequences and relationships that are brought to the fore when events that are out of our control effect us.

Created in approx 50 hours the company began by looking at the harrowing facts involved in the events of 1999. We began by improvising scenes and thinking about the human stories involved. We decided on a narrative and brought it together in a script that we’ve been working on for the last half of the process. What you will watch is the culmination of that journey.

Cast: Camilla Cox, Claire Delle Luche, Antoine Delmotte, Keir Fabian, Paul Ford, Alice Melton, Angelica Servan, Su Tuncer, Reema Vedhara.

Directed by Gareth Kennerley

Five Kinds of Silence (September 2016)

5-kinds-poster-for-web

5 Kinds of Silence is a harrowing, energetic, dark and important look at the pervasiveness of abuse within a family. As far as Billy is concerned, what he says goes. But everybody has their limits, and sometimes some things just break.

Rehearsed in approx 60 hrs this piece is the contemporary project for students in the company. After this they can go on to perform in a classical project.

Cast: Jo Corrigan, Calin Drimbau, Jean Frederic Garcia, Stefanie Kruszyk, Hayley Oakes, Amira Shah

3 Birds Alighting on a Field (September 2016)

3birds

Three Birds Alighting on a Field was written in the early 90s. Set in the worlds of modern art and high society it takes a satirical swipe at Britishness and Privilege and raises questions of national and cultural identity in an increasingly globalised forum. Watch as Biddy’s world crumbles in parallel to the walls of communism, and how, while not in the ways that were expected, she finds new life in the aftermath.

Rehearsed in approx 60 hrs this piece is the contemporary project for students in the company. After this they can go on to perform in a classical project.

Cast: Fabrizio Colonna, Anna Cura Rodes, Claire Delle Luche, Calin Drimbau, Terry John, Tori Johanne Lau, Alina Maraghelis, Varun Mathure, Paul Mendez, Raena Sangsit, Pia Wojtinnek

Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing (September 2016)

Much Ado About Nothing is a brilliant and timeless comedic treat. In this new production we watch as the course of true love unravels among the clients at the exclusive Spa Messina. Will it find its way again or will the plottings of Donna John break everything apart irreparably?
Rehearsed in approx 60 hrs this devised piece is the penultimate project for many of the performers involved before going on to a final showcase as part of the Scaffold State Training Company program.

Cast: Helia Zarbafi, Rob Scott, Felipe Mattei, Pia Wojtinnek, Rasha Shaheen, Sam Barnes, Anna Cura Rodes, Leo Acker, Terry John, Sean Grace, Christine Bows, Andrew Bowman, Tori Johanne Lau, Claire Delle Luche.

Eddies is a moving portrait of pivotal moments in the story of an extended family over 3 generations. How do the choices we make swirl back and forth through time to affect us in any given present? Does the ‘when’ even matter in our quest to know ourselves?

Historical/Political – Performed at Theatre Delicatessen – Cabaret Space

Vinegar Tom tells a story of Paranoia, Lust, Jealousy, Claustrophobia and Vengeance. Set against the backdrop of early 17th Century England, the play is concerned with the struggles of women to find their voices and themselves in a world dominated by dangerous and ignorant men and their laws and judgments. Are there really witches in this town, or has the finger of blame got out of hand? Dark, Disturbing and Compelling – and a little bit mad – this piece is definitely worth a look.

The Cherry Orchard (November 2015)

Historical/Political – Performed at Theatre Delicatessen – Cabaret Space

One of Chekhov’s masterpieces, The Cherry Orchard, performed by members of the Scaffold State Training company. Rehearsed in only 60 hrs, this performance over three nights was the culmination of the dedicated work of a group of non-professional actors meeting once or twice a week for 3 months.

The characters were brought to life in a dynamic and touching rendition of the trials and tribulations of the Gayev estate. Can the Cherry Orchard escape the axe, or will it and the old world it represents finally give way to the changes sweeping across Russia at the turn of the 20th century? Can a broken family reunite in order to preserve their history?

The training company had already completed an introductory course to acting, and had made a devised piece of theatre. This marked their first public performance.
